NGV Industry Summit

Join us for the NGV Industry Summit on February 24, 2016
in Long Beach, California.

Gain insight on the “game-changing” opportunity our industry has to reinvigorate heavy-duty NGV sales by leveraging the emergence of extremely low-emitting natural gas technologies and fuel.

There are just 2 weeks left to register for this important closed-door, industry discussion!

NGV Industry Summit Agenda – February 24

8:30 am – Introduction & Welcome

8:45 am – State of the State: NGV Activities in Today’s Marketplace
Get an update and overview on the current state of the North American NGV market. Hear how NGVs continue to provide significant cost savings and environmental benefits to end-users and how investment in the sector marches forward in spite of the current, and likely temporary, low oil price environment.

9:00am -Overview of Changing Landscape for Heavy-Duty NGVs
The combination of ultra-low NOx heavy-duty natural gas engines and the use of renewable natural gas is a true game changer for the transportation and air quality industries. With low oil prices, an increased focus on corporate sustainability, and a continued need for urban air quality improvement, the timing could not be better for a conversation about the incremental environmental benefit of heavy-duty NGVs. Before diving into a number of detailed issues throughout the rest of the day, gain a high level overview on the important value proposition offered by the NGV industry.

9:30 am – Key Terms and Issues: NAAQS, NOx, and GHGs
To truly understand the full societal and end user benefits offered by heavy-duty NGVs and RNG — and thus sell the value it offers NGV customers and stakeholders — it is important to have a thorough understanding of the key air quality and energy issues that serve as a backdrop to the discussion.

The National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) just recently updated by the US EPA in October 2015. Understand how these legally-required federal air quality standards must be met in the near term and how HD NGVs can play an important role.

Beyond NAAQS and NOx, gain an understanding of how carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and short live climate pollutants (SLCPs) all work together as both short- and long- term Greenhouse Gases, and how the increased use of HD NGVs and RNG can significantly reduce these emissions. As the public and private sector increasingly focuses on the sustainability of their transportation departments, it is important to have a comprehensive knowledge of these important issues.

9:50 am – HD Transportation Issues: Air Quality, Climate Change, and Petroleum Demand
Heavy-duty trucks are a tremendously important segment of our economy, but also have a significant impact on regional air quality, climate change and our nation’s petroleum demand. This panel of experts will provide a comprehensive overview on the central role heavy-duty trucks play in these societal challenges and thus an important perspective about the need to rapidly transform our heavy-duty trucking sector towards near-zero-emission, low carbon fuel and technology “pathways.”

10:50 am – Coffee Break

11:10 am – Timelines for Action – Challenges and Opportunities
There are a myriad of local, state and federal initiatives that are driving America’s heavy-duty on-road transportation sector towards cleaner fuels and advanced prime mover technologies. Many of these initiatives overlap, and in some cases they present tradeoffs that must be carefully understood and managed. In this session, a basic overview will be provided to describe the major challenges and pressing overlapping timelines of achieving the many objectives related to cleaner heavy-duty transportation and fuels.

11:30 am – Leading Approaches for Addressing NAAQS, Climate Change and Petroleum Reduction in the HD Transportation Sector
Gain a comprehensive overview on key advanced clean transportation technologies and fuels that may also play a role in helping to transform America’s heavy-duty transportation sector. Summary information will be provided on the top fuel-technology pathways that hold promise, including advanced diesel using renewable diesel, battery electric, plug in hybrid, hydrogen fuel cell, and of course, advanced heavy-duty natural gas engines using RNG.

12:00 pm – Lunch

12:30 pm – Game Changing Engine Technology – Ultra-Low NOx Engine Development
Get an update from Cummins Westport on their game changing ultra-low NOx engine technology development program. With the ISL NZ now certified by CARB and US EPA, Cummins Westport is working to bring other near zero emission technology to the market in the coming one to two years.

12:45 pm – Game Changing Low Carbon Fuels – Renewable Natural Gas
Learn how renewable natural gas (RNG) can offer the lowest carbon footprint of any transportation fuel in the market today. Hear how more than 50 percent of the NGV transportation fuel being consumed today in California is renewable natural gas and how other RNG projects are taking place around the country.

1:00 pm – Coffee Break

1:15 pm – The Compelling Value Proposition of Ultra-Low NOx HD NG Engines and RNG
This presentation will highlight the multiple important benefits offered by ultra-low NOx heavy-duty natural gas engines and renewable natural gas. Set against the background of the previous presentations, this discussion will describe and quantify the societal and end user benefits that advanced medium- and heavy-heavy-duty engines and fuel can deliver when deployed throughout the HDV sector. Specific examples will be provided about the compelling air quality, climate change, and petroleum displacement benefits, and how they can immediately begin helping to transform America’s heavy-duty transportation sector. An overview of barriers and challenges will also be provided. The presentation will take a national perspective, while noting the clear importance that California continues to play in driving both opportunities and challenges.

2:00 pm – Driving HD NGV Sales with Game Changing Technologies and Fuels
Translating tremendous opportunity into tangible sales will be the key consideration as the NGV industry moves forward in 2016 and beyond. This panel discussion will explore the key challenges facing the NGV market and the industry can capitalize on the significant opportunities presented by ultra-low NOx engines and renewable natural gas.

3:15 pm – Coffee Break

3:30 pm – Incentives and Policies to Drive NGV Sales
Grants, incentives, tax credits and other financial programs and policies have played an important role in the development of the NGV industry to date. Get the latest information on key incentive programs available in the U.S. market today. Hear about leading state-level programs and get an update on federal programs and policies recently adopted that will provide significant financial benefit to NGV end-users. The federal fuel tax credit will be discussed, as will be an update on the federal weight exemption for heavy-duty NGVs.

4:30 pm – Recommendations and Next Steps
After a full day of discussion, this final panel will help answer the big question of the day – now what? Learn how the key messages about the NGV industry’s game changing technology and fuel will be carried forward throughout the nation, to key states, and at the federal level to drive focus, attention and investment in the NGV sector. Hear about key NGV industry policy actions, goals and objectives for 2016 and what you can help participate to drive the market going forward.
