City Furniture owns and operates 16 City Furniture stores and 11 Ashley Furniture HomeStore showrooms throughout Florida. They employ more than 1,100 people and are recognized as South Florida’s top-selling furniture retailer. Since mid-2013, City Furniture has purchased a total of 56 Class 6 Isuzu NPR HD dedicated and bi-fuel delivery trucks, and are among the first in their market segment to migrate to NGVs. This year their fleet will displace 234,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
A newly-commissioned $1.5 million dollar private-use CNG station, located at their Tamarac headquarters, is currently configured to time-fill 90 vehicles but was built with additional capacity to facilitate public fueling.
City Furniture’s return-to-base NGVs fuel overnight. For deliveries throughout Central Florida, the company has arranged to use various CNG stations in the area, and, for longer hauls, they deploy their bi-fuel trucks, which have enough CNG tank capacity to travel about 225 miles with an additional 30 gallons of gasoline in reserve.
City Furniture is on target for a 100 percent, 90-vehicle fleet switch-over by 2016, and current plans are underway for a public-access fast fill operation at their distribution center, which will allow the general public and other corporate fleets to take advantage of a clean, abundant and inexpensive fuel.
City Furniture is recognized today for their unique niche market application and for providing the necessary momentum to promote Natural Gas as a transportation fuel in the state of Florida.
