Sam Swearngin has been involved in Fleet Management for more than 25 years. He is a former Chair and charter member of the Kansas City Regional Clean Cities Coalition and serves as Fleet Administrator to the City of Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to his regular duties, Sam is also responsible for the city’s alternative fuel program.
In the early 1990s, Sam implemented a successful 12 vehicle NGV pilot program. Under his leadership and partnership with Missouri Gas Energy, this small demonstration project has grown to over 300 NGVs of virtually all types and sizes and five CNG fueling stations.
In the last five years, Sam has played a key role in the successful implementation of three other large CNG fleets: the Kansas City, Kansas School District bus fleet; the Lee’s Summit, Missouri School District bus fleet; and the Kansas City Area Transit Authority bus fleet. In each case, Sam fought bureaucracy to allow these fleets to fill their buses at his stations during their CNG conversion start-up phase.
This year, Sam fulfilled one of his most meaningful career goals with the opening of Kansas City’s 6th station, their first public-access CNG station.
