WASHINGTON, D.C. – NGVAmerica congratulates Saddle Creek Transportation for being named Green Fleet of the Year by Fleet Owner magazine. Fleet Owner profiled 12 different fleets that are notable for their sustainability and environmental stewardship, including Saddle Creek, who was then selected for their natural gas vehicle program.
“Saddle Creek is so far advanced in its approach to adopting an alternative fuel strategy that it was the clear choice for the award,” said Jim Mele, Fleet Owner editor-in-chief. “The breadth of their program is just so wide. They’ve made a real commitment to sustainability.”
Saddle Creek operates a fleet that includes more than one hundred clean-burning compressed natural gas (CNG) tractors and also maintains a natural gas fueling station. The for-hire fleet is based out of Lakeland, Florida, and supports customers’ local and regional delivery needs throughout the Southeast. In the past year, the fleet has traveled more than 20 million miles on natural gas.
“We’re proud to be recognized as the Green Fleet of the Year,” said Mike DelBovo, president of Saddle Creek Transportation. “We’re already seeing the benefit of our investment in a CNG fleet—for Saddle Creek, our customers, and the environment.”
Saddle Creek also received an NGV Achievement Award by NGVAmerica in 2012 for “Outstanding NGV Third-Party Logistics Industry Leadership.” NGV Achievement Awards are given to persons and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions in leadership, vision and innovation to the advancement of natural gas as a vehicular fuel.
“NGVAmerica applauds Saddle Creek for their continued success using natural gas in their fleet operations and for the further acknowledgement they have received from Fleet Owner magazine,” said Richard Kolodziej, president of NGVAmerica. “Saddle Creek has provided our industry with a stellar model of how successful—both environmentally and economically—a natural gas vehicle program can be.”
The Green Fleet of the Year award will be presented at the ACT Expo in Long Beach, California, May 7, 2014.
