State Matters

NGVAmerica provides information and analysis on a growing number of states with a series of State Profiles. The State Profiles cover states’ demographics, political and legislative landscapes, transportation profiles, vehicle markets, and energy production. This information provides stakeholders with the up-to-date information needed to make informed decisions within the NGV marketplace. The State Profiles are made available exclusively to NGVAmerica members through the NGV Policy Portal, a comprehensive source of information on natural gas and the NGV industry.

Members can access the State Profiles through the NGV Policy Portal Here.

NGVAmerica has created the following spreadsheet using information published by the International Fuel Tax Association, the American Petroleum Institute, and NGVAmerica’s own research of state laws, rules, and guidance concerning the taxation of CNG and LNG as transportation fuels. A number of states are currently in the process of revamping how they tax CNG and LNG. Tax rates often change yearly but can also change quarterly. This spreadsheet is intended to help inform discussions at the state level as members engage state policy makers concerning changes to the taxation of CNG and LNG to create more equitable treatment of CNG and LNG.

The above spreadsheets have been prepared by NGVAmerica as a service to its members. They include summary details on state legislation that has been introduced and in some cases enacted. The coverage includes bills that are NGV specific, bills that cover multiple alternative fuels (including natural gas), and also bills that only provide incentives for electric or hybrid electric vehicles.  The spreadsheet will be updated periodically and posted in the Members Center on our website.

NGVAmerica has made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information provided in these spreadsheets. However, your assistance in verifying the accuracy of this information and updating changes for states where you operate is appreciated. Please contact Jeff Clarke at jclarke@NGVAmerica.org if you have questions about this information or would like to submit updated information. If you provide information please also include links to state websites or citations so that we can use those sources in the future.
