CUMMINS PLACES DEVELOPMENT OF ISX15 G ENGINE ON TEMPORARY HOLD

On Tuesday, Cummins confirmed it plans to place development of the spark-ignited ISX15 G engine on a temporary hold due to market timing. Cummins began developing the natural gas engine in March 2012 and planned to begin limited production late this year. “While we believe natural gas power will continue to grow in the North American truck market, the timing of the adoption of natural gas in long haul fleets preferring 15 liter engines is uncertain,” said Christy House, On-highway Marketing Communications Director for Cummins. The news comes after Westport took its last orders of its 15L natural gas engine Nov. 15, 2013, in what was a strategic shift from the production of stand-alone engines to providing HPDI solutions to OEMs. Cummins will reevaluate production of the ISX15 G later this year.
