California Transit Agency to Purchase 11 CNG Transit Buses

On Wednesday, the Santa Monica, California, City Council approved a $6.8 million expenditure to purchase 11 Gillig 40-foot low-floor CNG buses for the City’s Big Blue Bus (BBB). The purchase was made as part of a joint procurement that via a Request of Proposal (RFP) in cooperation with 20 other transit agencies, which determined Gillig was the best bidder. The transit agency currently operates roughly 99 LNG buses that were purchased between 2002 and 2006. Thirty-seven of these buses have reached the end of their useful life under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) guidelines.
