Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Develop Alt Fuel Travel Center

On Monday, as part of the ongoing sustainability efforts at Chicago’s airports, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) announced it will develop a 4,000 sq. ft. fueling station and travel center featuring a range of alternative fuels. The travel center will offer CNG, biodiesel and fast-charge posts for electric vehicles, as well as conventional gasoline. CDA has contracted with Clean Energy to build and operate the natural gas station. The public-access travel center located near the airport will provide fuel for the growing number of alt fuel fleet vehicles serving the airport, and the general public. The project is expected to create 73 construction jobs and 30 permanent positions. The CDA will receive a base rent of $100,000 for the land and 5 percent of gross sales. The target opening date for the travel center at O’Hare is early 2016.
