NGVAmerica Comments on 2015 Quadrennial Technology Review

On Monday, NGVAmerica submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with regards to the 2015 Quadrennial Technology Review (QTR).  DOE’s description of the QTR explains that it will “examine the most promising research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) opportunities across energy technologies to effectively address the nation’s energy needs.”

DOE also has stated that this effort will identify important technology opportunities involving energy supply and end-use applications, and could support future “funding decisions, approaches to public-private partnerships, and other strategic actions over the next five years.”

NGVAmerica pointed out that as the number one natural gas producer in the world, the U.S. should also lead on NGV R&D efforts.  Currently, the U.S. lags far behind many other countries in terms of NGV market penetration. NVAmerica pointed out that DOE currently does not have any ongoing initiatives dedicated to funding the advancement of technology for NGVs.  NGVAmerica urged DOE to fund an R&D initiative that supports the expanded use of natural gas in the transportation sector, and urged DOE to collaborate with our industry to identify key priorities for funding.
