Carnival Introduces Cruise Ship Powered by LNG at Sea and in Port

Carnival Corporation and its AIDA Cruises brand, a cruise line in Germany, held a naming ceremony to welcome AIDAnova into their fleet, which will be the first cruise ship to be powered at sea and in port by LNG.

Held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, the naming celebration included a first-of-its-kind AIDA Open Air concert featuring a light show, fireworks display and live musical performance before a sold-out crowd of more than 25,000 participants.

AIDAnova’s decision to use clean-burning LNG is an innovation that will reduce exhaust emissions to help protect the environment and support Carnival Corporation’s sustainability goals. It is the first of 11 next-generation cruise ships from Carnival Corporation to be deployed between 2018 and 2025 that can generate their power at sea and in port from LNG.

AIDAnova will begin its maiden voyage from Hamburg to the Canary Islands on December 2, 2018.
