Statement By NGVAmerica On Introduction of Tax Extender and Disaster Relief of 2019

Washington, D.C. – Statement by NGVAmerica President Daniel Gage on the introduction of legislation to extend the $0.50/gallon Alternative Fuel Tax Credit for 2018 and 2019:

“Today’s introduction by Senators Grassley and Wyden of legislation that will extend a host of expired tax provisions demonstrates foresight and commitment. Their work to include the AFTC in this package recognizes the importance of consistent federal tax policy that clears our air, combats climate change, and supports the expanded use of clean transportation technologies.

“This $0.50/gallon credit makes an enormous difference in the effort to convince aging fleets to upgrade to zero emission equivalent, carbon-negative trucks and buses fueled by renewable natural gas.

“This credit benefits consumers and fleets of all sizes – both public and private – and allows operators to make needed investments in cleaner American-made natural gas vehicles with certainty.

“The conversion of one Class 8 diesel truck to one Class 8 Ultra Low NOx natural gas truck is the emissions equivalent of removing 119 gas cars from our roadways. Support for the AFTC is support for cleaning our air and reducing our carbon footprint.

“Since filing season is upon us and tax code clarity is vital, we urge the House and Senate to consider this proposal as quickly as possible.”
