NGVAmerica Submits Comments in Support of Fuel Tank Labeling Guidance Change

NGVAmerica today submitted comments in support of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s proposed update to its heavy-duty natural gas vehicle fuel system tank inspection labeling requirement.

The proposed rule change removes the mileage requirement and changes the timeframe from 36 months to 12 months for heavy-duty vehicles, matching recommended industry guidance NGVA previously developed after a lengthy and collaborative review.

In December 2017, NGVAmerica released its long-awaited recommended Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel System Inspection Guidance document. NGVAmerica’s Technology & Development Committee’s Fuel System Inspection Work Group created the new guidance after two years of discussion and review.

Today’s submission was in response to NHTSA’s June 21st Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM).

The complete NGVAmerica guidance is publicly available for NGVA members and partners here on the ngvamerica.org website. A copy of NGVA’s NPRM comments is accessible here.
